Welcome to Foundation Stage at St Johns! We are made up of three classes - The Owl Babies, The Rainbow Fish and The Very Hungry Caterpillars! We love coming to school to learn and play in our fabulous indoor and outdoor provision.
Here is a little information about all of the staff in our wonderful team.
We are so excited to welcome our new cohort of children into Reception! We will kick off the year with our fabulous topic "Marvelous Me!" In this topic, we will be learning all about ourselves and each other! We will be learning about our friendships and how to be a kind friend! We will be discussing our families and learning that all families are special and unique! We will also be thinking about our bodies and how to look after them as well as how to manage and regulate our emotions. We will finish off the half term by thinking about our favourite toys, and exploring the toys that children played with in the past!
We will be learning to discriminate sounds in our Phase 1 phonics, and will be moving quickly onto Phase where we will start to learn the sounds that letters make. We will be doing lots of oral blending and segmenting practise as this is a crucial stage of learning to read and write! We will also be making sure that we can form letters correctly, hold a pencil using the correct grip and write our own name!
In maths, we will be thinking about numbers and what they really mean. We will be exploring number facts, ordering numbers and singing lots of counting songs to help us!
In Autumn 2 we will have so much fun in our topic "Let's Celebrate!". In this topic we will be learning all about Harvest, Bonfire Night, Remembrance, Birthdays, Diwali, Hanukkah, Advent and Christmas! We will also start tracking the seasons and look out for the signs of Autumn. We will be fully immersed in the culture and tradition of each celebration and will finish off 2023 with our fantastic nativity performances!
In phonics we will be continuing to learn our phase 2 sounds, and will be starting to use them to read and write words and sentences of our very own! In maths, we will continue to develop a deep understanding of numbers to ten.
