Intent
At St John the Baptist Primary School, we value both knowledge and creativity, and our Computing curriculum reflects this commitment. Carefully curated to inspire our children, it equips them with the tools to tackle challenges as they progress through their school lives. Our spiral curriculum ensures that key topics are revisited and built upon, embedding knowledge while fostering problem-solving skills and innovation.
We are proud to embrace diversity in our school community. Recognising the importance of inclusion, we have joined the "I Belong" scheme, which promotes girls in Computing, and offer enrichment opportunities such as our school coding club. These initiatives empower every child to see themselves as confident, capable participants in the digital world.
Our Computing journey begins in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where we lay the groundwork for confident and responsible technology use. With dedicated equipment and tailored resources, we address the needs of all learners, ensuring they are prepared to live and work harmoniously in a tech-filled world.
To deliver a comprehensive and engaging experience, we utilise Kapow's Computing scheme alongside elements from Teach Computing. This combination ensures our curriculum is relevant, exciting, and challenging, seamlessly integrated with the wider curriculum. Children engage in both hands-on computer use and “Unplugged” lessons, enhancing their computational thinking skills.
In today’s digital age, our aim is to develop skilled and knowledgeable computational thinkers who can program, debug, create digital media, and solve problems. We aspire to guide children to be creators, not just consumers of technology, fostering a lifelong curiosity and passion for Computing. By promoting equality and providing challenge for all, our inclusive curriculum ensures every child can succeed, thrive, and be ready to confidently navigate the digital world.
